“Try not to become a man or woman of success, but rather try to become a person of values.” ~ Albert Einstein
You have a unique definition of success, right? Some people consciously define it, some folks allow others to determine it for them, and still others just let life happen without mindful choice.
But we know what we want and consciously align with it! So as we picture success, let’s not forget that accomplishment that is not founded upon our individual values… isn’t really success at all.
For success is about who we become as we grow into our goals. So what qualities do you truly want to embody? Many values are picked up from parents, teachers and friends from years past … and they have served us well. Still others may not support us on our journey.
Here’s Some News You Can Use: What you are valuing … is what you are focusing upon most!
So as you consider the concept of success in your own life, are the thoughts you’re thinking really aligned with what you want to value? For example, if you value abundance, you can not dwell upon thoughts of scarcity and expect to receive more money.
Here are three commonly held beliefs that masquerade as values. And these particular rascals can actually work against us if we don’t release them. Have you heard any of these comments or entertained them yourself?
- No pain, no gain.
Of course anything worthwhile requires effort, but it doesn’t have to be painful or hard. We can actually accomplish and receive more when we’re as ease. Yet the “no pain, no gain” myth is a commonly held belief in our social consciousness. Ouch!
- You need money to make money.
Not true, how many success stories have you heard about people who built something from very little or nothing? Think about Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Henry Ford, just to name a few. Almost everyone starts with little money, yet anyone can receive more of it with a good idea that’s combined with persistent right thought and right action! So… yes you can be, do or have anything!
- Success is perfection.
This one can really get us into trouble if our definition of “perfect” doesn’t allow us to … make the call, offer our services, or ask for help. So, if this belief has you standing in your own way, redefine perfection to something that you can live and work with. I try to remind myself to do the best I can from where I am, and that’s good enough!
For greater clarity and attunement, ask what am I valuing here and is this what I truly want to hold in high regard? Let your vision of success be rooted in principles and beliefs that lift you up, and say goodbye to the rascals!
Your friend and partner in favorable outcomes,
