Practical Balance

October 8th, 2008

In celebration of the 1 year anniversary of  “The Business Owner’s Guide to the Universe” release, we’re revisiting some of our most popular Daily Discovery messages. This is an adaptation of a post originally published on December 19, 2007. May it bring you harmony in action!

Peace and Practical Balance

WORD COUNT:  307 Short   …  Yet Empowering Words

TIME to CREATE: * A Little More than 1 MINUTE *

Practical: Adjective Meaning: Doable, Realistic, In action, Systematic, Sensible, Feasible

Balance: Noun Meaning: Harmony, Proportion, Peace, Integrity, Oneness, Order, Unity

So Practical Balance is “Doable Harmony”.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that all areas of your life are equally divided into neat little time blocks.  It does mean that overall, how you choose to invest your time and energy is in integrity with what you value and hold dear.

It doesn’t mean you’re always doing what is #1 on your priority list every moment of every day. For your priorities change with your life cycles, and as you develop new preferences.

Practical Balance is using a systematic approach to create a life and business that is aligned with what is most precious to you. Your essential ingredients may  include: fulfilling work, time to connect with family or friends, more play personally and professionally, caring for aging parents, building a business, nurturing your spirit, personal growth, a supportive partner, intellectual pursuits, and of course … administrative stuff like paying the bills, and taking out the trash.

Practical Balance is about integrating and blending all of the wonderful experiences you truly want as consistently as you can, without cutting yourself off from unexpected opportunities and surprises.

Practical Balance requires you to:

1. Know your Unique Definition of Success. This is your compass and reflects your essential ingredients to a fulfilling life and business.

2. Use your compass daily as a healthy boundary, so you stay pointed toward your True North.

3. Use tools and systems to keep you on track. Tools are things like “The Daily Discovery Series”, calendars, lists, affirmations, right action, 24KT planning, software, gadgets, organizers, empowering habits, and whatever you will use consistently to stay pointed to
what you truly value.

That’s about it. It seems pretty simple when you look at it this way, doesn’t it?

Peace!
