May Your Labor Be Light

WORD COUNT: 307 Short … Yet Purposeful Words
TIME to BLISSFUL WORK : * About 1 MINUTE *
What would happen if we reframed our concept of work to see our vocation as a vacation? How would this perspective change the way you experienced life?
I’m not suggesting that you forgo holidays, or the varied interests of a balanced and fulfilling life. For life is filled with infinite wonders to explore!
Yet your perspectives determine how you feel about work, play, your relationships, and yourself!
So wouldn’t the quality of life improve beyond measure … if we the people … chose to see work with the same anticipation we feel for an upcoming holiday. Why not make playful work a priority? Why not shed the cultural norms that promote over responsibility, “have tos” and “shoulds”?
For just the thought of having fun can bring us into a state of joy and peace. And if we anticipate play, we’re less likely to get derailed by minor annoyances and setbacks. When we journey with the expectation of a wondrous time, that is what we create in our experience!
The little stuff never has an opportunity to become BIG STUFF, because we don’t feed it with our attention.
When we anticipate lightness, we go with the flow, and are open to our highest creative abilities. And so we are able to thoroughly enjoy each new day as the gift that it surely is.
When we succumb to burdensome living, we lose the awe, wonder, and the miracle each day holds. And wasn’t it Socrates who said that “wisdom begins with wonder” ?
When we follow our bliss, and see work as an opportunity to do what we truly love, then every day can harness the qualities of an extended vacation, filled with opportunities to grow in wisdom.
In this reality, time away from work is simply another occasion to have fun in the playground that is life!
Recess anyone?
Your friend and partner in right livelihood,
