As a culture, we speak of life balance as if there’s some magic formula. If we just use the right day planner or meditate more, our life will be transformed.
There are certainly many tools to help us organize and align with what we desire. But in order to attain anything, we must first understand what it is… and there’s a lot of confusion around the concept of life balance.
So for purposes of our discussion, let’s think of Balance as doable harmony, realistic order and Oneness in action.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that all areas in your life are equally proportioned in neat little time blocks.
It means that overall, how you choose to invest your time and energy is in integrity with what you value and hold dear.
It doesn’t mean you’re always doing what is #1 on your priority list every moment of every day. For your priorities change with your life cycles and as you develop new preferences.
Real Balance is making conscious choices to create a life and business that is aligned with what is most precious to you. Your life and what you value may include: meaningful work, children, play, aging parents, building a business, spiritual practices, personal growth, a significant other, intellectual pursuits, administrative stuff like paying the bills, and making a commitment to connect with your treasured friends.
So Real Balance is about integrating and blending all of the experiences you truly want, as consistently as you can, without cutting yourself off from unexpected opportunities and the wonder of surprises.
Experiment with these suggestions for living in harmony with what you value most. Tweak them as needed to make them your own.
1. Know your unique definition of success. This is your compass and reflects your essential ingredients to a fulfilling life and business. How do you define a successful life?
2. Refer to your compass daily to establish a healthy boundary. This will keep you pointed toward your True North.
3. Use whatever will help you personally stay on track. This may be tools like The Daily Discovery Series, calendars, lists, affirmations, right thought, planning and action, software, organizers, meditation or whatever you will use consistently… to stay pointed to your True North.
That’s about it. Seems pretty simple when you look at it this way, doesn’t it?
Peace!
