It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the methods you can choose to create awareness about your one-of-a-kind business.
That’s why so many business owners resort to “the spaghetti marketing approach”. This is where you toss everything on the wall and wait to see what sticks. Of course, this isn’t the best approach; it’s not very cost effective and can get really messy.
As in life, the adage that less in more, works equally well in marketing.
Fewer methods means simpler deployment and less stress on your budget. Also, a narrow focus can be a more effective way to connect with more of your customers.
So, how do you get the best results and maximize your return on your time, money and energy?
Try answering these 3 simple questions to get pointed in the best direction possible.
First, plant yourself firmly in your ideal customer’s shoes, then consider:
1. What do I value most about this product or service? This is the #1 benefit you’ll highlight in your message.
2. Where do I like to hang out? This means what do I read? Where do I visit … what do I watch … online or offline? Where do I work and play? Who else do I do business with?
3. What form of communication do I prefer? This is the method that has the highest probability of compelling your ideal customers to connect with you.
Question #1 guides you toward a high-impact headline.
Question # 2 helps you choose the best places to advertise.
Question # 3 points you to the most effective medium.
Play with these questions until you feel complete. Then test, evaluate and refine. Have fun with this part of your business, as you connect with those you are best suited to serve!
