24KT Marketing: Going Beyond “Effective”
January 1st, 2008The New Year is all about new beginnings and it’s also a perfect time to take an honest look at your marketing.
Let’s dare to go beyond the question, is it effective? For that question only answers – is it feeding your bottom line? A good question to be sure, but not one that will feed your spirit for long.
For being a perfect fit applies to business as well as personal relationships. Knowing the attributes and characteristics of your ideal customers helps you create marketing strategies, material and services that attract more ideal customers to you. Then when you provide services that satisfy your ideal customer’s unique needs … using your unique strengths, now you’re onto something special. You’ll create long term relationships because you enjoy doing business with your customers and they in turn enjoy doing business with you.
So answering the question who do I want to do business with? … is every bit as important for your customers as it is for your spiritual and financial bottom line.
Do you have any customers that you don’t like doing business with? In almost every organization there are those customers who would be better off someplace else, and you would be better off focusing on serving those who are truly an ideal fit for you and your business.
So to answer the question is your marketing attracting your ideal customers, all you need do is look at your current customer base. Which ones do you serve well and what percentage of your business is from customers who drain your resources, time and energy. Now consider what is it about the less-than-ideal relationships that you don’t like. Often it’s things like – they don’t pay their bills on time, they’re never satisfied, theyare rude or disrespectful etc.
Once you define what you don’t like, it’s really simply to get clear about what you do want and THAT is what is ideal for you AND your customers. If you take the time to get really clear about the attributes and characteristics of your ideal customer, your time will be very well spent indeed.
