24KT GOALS: Not Just Run-of-the-Mill Dreams

February 8th, 2008

Map and CompassWORD COUNT:  451 Short …  Yet oh so Expansive Words

TIME to Get ALIGNED: * About 2 MINUTES *

Goals are simply experiences, things, desires or preferences that you assign a deadline and/or a measurable attribute to, like desired revenue. It’s a dream with a deadline!

In the “Business Owner’s Guide to the Universe” success system, you don’t create run-of-the-mill goals. You create 24KT Goals™!

They are 24KT because they inspire you … they feed your spirit as well as your bottom line! A 24KT Goal helps you align your energy, thoughts, feelings and resources with what is uniquely important to you!

They are 24KT because they are:

* Guided by your “Unique Definition of Success”

* On target with your vision of an ideal lifestyle and business

* Lined up with the best route possible

* Drawing on your one-of-a-kind gifts and talents

The power of goal setting is outlined in Mark McCormack’s book “What They Still Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School”. The author tells of a 1979 study involving MBA graduates. He wanted to know how many graduates had set goals. So he asked, “Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?”

The poll indicated that 3% of the graduates had clear, written goals, 13% had goals, but had not written them down, and the remaining 84% had no goals.

The author interviewed them again ten years later and found that: the 13% with unwritten goals were earning twice as much as the 84% that did not set goals, and amazingly the 3% of the graduates with clearly written goals were earning, on average, 10 times more than the remaining 97% of their entire graduating class combined!

These same principles apply to how you design your personal and professional life. But I’ll go a step further and say that it’s not enough to simply have goals. If you want more joy and prosperity in your life, then set goals that feed your spirit, as well as your bottom line!

Mark McCormack’s research supports the power of clear intentions, but it doesn’t factor in happiness, or personal fulfillment. Anyone who has strived and then achieved a goal entirely because of the cash reward, like accepting a job opportunity or a promotion based solely on economics, will tell you that those achievements are often empty and can become a burden, instead of the great experience that you had hoped for.

To add real value to your life, to help you grow and enjoy your unique journey, set goals that are 24KT, that are:

Guided by your “Unique Definition of Success” … On target with your vision of an ideal lifestyle and business … Lined up with the best route  possible … Drawing on your one-of-a-kind gifts and talents. Do what you love AND love what you do!
