8 Ways to Immerse Yourself in Joyful Living

November 16th, 2009

upliftedheart

WORD COUNT:  928  Brief, Yet Nurturing Words
TIME to Joyful Expansion : * 8 – 11 Minutes *

* Listen Here * Run time: 11 Minutes

Have you ever wondered about your role in the universe, or if what you do makes a lasting difference?

The search for meaning has kept us reaching since the beginning of time.

We search for meaningful work, a more balanced and fulfilling life, and for our unique purpose. We wonder – does what I do matter? We want to know that we make a difference.

The answer of course, is yes, without question. But still we search…without realizing that the very act of living makes a difference, and the truth is so simple that we often keep ourselves apart from the answers we seek.

We believe that enlightenment is only for the gurus who mediate 8 hours a day, who retreat to some mountain top until they get a sudden flash that forever changes them, and gives them divine insight into the meaning of life.

Many of us get caught in the seeking part, and so we never find what we desire, because we believe this state of knowing is only for other people, who are more gifted or special than we are. Yet when we realize that the answers are truly within us and readily available, rather than out there embedded in some ancient secret, that is when we’re able to find the answers we seek.

There’s a Zen saying that says we must seek without seeking. In other words, we must be curious in order to set the wheels of discovery in motion, and then we must also expect to find the answers.

So explore always expecting to find that which you seek.

But we sometimes see our lives as too ordinary. And that’s why we often don’t recognize the countless opportunities we encounter every single day. We are surrounded by opportunities to make a difference, to connect with others in a meaningful way, and to know more joy and fulfillment.

So maybe it’s time to recognize how truly special you are. For every decision you make, and every thought or deed you express as an impact.

Your daily choices matter. And the thoughts you think set everything in motion, and so that’s the place to start. For your beliefs create your reality. They lead to the decisions you make, and the words and deeds you express.

When you choose to become a conscious creator, to embrace the significance of your daily decisions, that is when you begin to truly appreciate your place in the universe.

So how are you exercising your personal power to create the life you truly desire, and to give, as well as receive?

Through your acts and words, you have the power to help yourself and others grow, you have the power to persuade, to educate, inspire, clarify, enlighten, heal old wounds, forgive, learn, build confidence, to uplift others and on, and on we could go.

And you also have the ability within you to experience more joy, fulfillment, appreciation, prosperity, happiness, or whatever you personally want to expand in your life.

Yet that same power can be used to tear yourself or others down. Certainly we would not do this intentionally, but through a lack of awareness, many people experience unnecessary grief in their lives.

Here’s what I mean. On average we think more than 60,000 thoughts per day. That’s a lot of thinking. And how many of those thoughts are constructive? How many lift you up, rather than tear you down? Do you generally expect the best, or are you letting doubt, anger or fear rob you of greater health and happiness?

Is your inner critic in charge, and keeping you trapped in indecision and procrastination? If so, you’re holding yourself apart from your greatest goals and dreams.

If you find yourself thinking, well maybe someday, when this happens, I’ll move forward. That day may never come, because outer circumstances don’t determine your reality. You do.

Whatever you seek, begin by believing that you can have it. You are in charge, not the wounded  ego, or the inner critic.

Decide now that You are in charge. This is how you reclaim your personal power, by recognizing that you have the power within you to have whatever you’re inspired to be, do or create.

Believe in yourself! For who’s more worth it than you? No one, that’s who!

So how do we do this when so much of our social consciousness is immersed in thoughts that are pointed toward what’s wrong with the world, or why something won’t work.

Here are Some Tools to Immerse Yourself in Joyfully Empowered Living.

1. DECIDE. Choose what you truly want to experience next, including what you want to give AND receive.

2. STAND IN YOUR OWN LIGHT. Refuse to let habits, other people, or outer circumstances take you off track. We’ll always have the media, advertisers and naysayers trying to tell us what to think, eat or believe. Shut them off. What you think and believe is far more important. What’s good for them, may not be your dream, nor should it be. So pay attention to what you think and feel, and let others have there own opinions. It’s for each of us to decide in our own way.

3. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DAILY CHOICES. How you choose to focus your attention in thought and in the actions you choose, determines what you create. So choose perspectives and actions that are aligned with what you truly want to expand in your experience.

4. CULTIVATE CONSTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS & WORDS. For they have the power to build or destroy.

5. BE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND. If the inner citric starts chiming in, talk to yourself as you would your very best friend. Refuse to succumb to thoughts of unworthiness. You are so much more than worthy and we can not give to others if we can’t give to ourselves
first. Practice every day turning toward thoughts that will help you, rather than hold you back.

Self-criticism is simply a habit that many of us formed in early childhood. But it serves no purpose other than to destroy your dreams and goals. So let is go.

6. USE EMPOWERING TOOLS & PRACTICES EVERY DAY. Choose tools and practices that help you make heart felt choices. And use ideas that help you be fully present throughout your day. Doing so helps you make the choices that are aligned with what you truly want to experience. And there are thousands of tools to help you. For example “The Daily Discovery Series” helps you stay focused on empowering  perspectives and purposeful living. And there are also affirmations, articles, books, coaches, teachers and energy workers
who are also great helpers.

And an indispensable tool for aligning with your inner wisdom is to make time for stillness, self reflection or meditation to nurture your soul everyday. Every minute helps. Read your favorite spiritual and personal development authors. Find what resonates with you at the moment and surround yourself with stuff that helps you feel good, as you cultivate constructive seeds.

7. EXPECT THE BEST IN EVERY DIRECTION YOU LOOK. Your imagination will help you with this. Your imagination is your personal story teller from your Higher Inner Being helping you play and create in the sandbox of time and space! So see yourself enjoying what you want to create in your imagination.

8. ABOVE ALL, CHOOSE TO ENJOY THE JOURNEY. There may be moments where this feels like an impossible choice. But if you say you’ll always choose to reach for the best perspective that you can from where you are, and mean it… you’ll transform your life in
ways that you can not yet imagine.

We are creating every day with our daily choices. And we can choose to create consciously or live on autopilot, letting habits and outer circumstances do the creating for us.

But when you choose to be a conscious creator, you leave excuses behind, and embrace your life, all of it. You know that you can steer your life in any direction you choose. For you can be, do or have anything that you can imagine. So allow yourself the answers and purpose you seek. Allow yourself to feel joy and prosperity in every area of your life. You can have this, it IS within you.

Your friend and partner in joyful living,

Laura

Why So Ambivalent?

November 10th, 2009

 fallsplendor

WORD COUNT:  498  Tiny, Yet Dynamic Words

TIME to Greater Clarity:  * Less than 3  Minutes *

Here’s something that may help you if you’re ever feeling ambivalent or indecisive about an idea or goal in progress.

Here’s a common scenario. You set a goal, and you’re very excited as you start your journey. You jump in with both feet. You’re reveling in what you’re learning. You’re finding the information and support that you need at every turn. And then you run out of steam. The energy and enthusiasm have waned.

So, now what? What happened? Let’s start by acknowledging that occasional ambivalence is perfectly normal. Yes, I did say normal, there’s nothing wrong with you (or me for that matter :) .

Aren’t we supposed to always be up, and rightly focused? The answer is no. Let’s face it; we’re complex beings with changing tastes and preferences. Sometimes we don’t feel like focusing on

something, and we don’t need a reason! It’s only an issue if we get stuck!

It’s common to have opposing attitudes, such as feeling excitement and doubt simultaneously when we think about a big leap! And sometimes we are uncertain about which path to follow. Again, normal!

If you’re feeling ambivalent about a goal or decision, it may simply mean that you need a break. Refocusing your energy, even for a few hours or a few days, may be just what you need to feel

reinvigorated! This scenario is likely true if you’ve been strongly focused on a particular dream or goal for an extended period of time, or at a high level of intensity.

But what if you take a break and still have mixed feelings?

Start by acknowledging that every decision has a price. So the

indecision is perfectly understandable. But we don’t want to stay there indefinitely, because being in limbo is uncomfortable. And forward movement and soul growth requires decisions.

So in order to move from ambivalence to decisive action, look to how you feel about your options. Ask your Inner Wisdom for guidance, and only decide when you’re calmly focused. And don’t allow ungrounded fears to sidetrack you with “shoulds” or analysis paralysis. Your heart always knows the best path!

There is a dance between logic and intuition, but over  analysis can kill your passion. The best of both worlds is to follow your passions, and then let your logic help you build the bridge!

So imagine … what are the desired experiences or benefits motivating the dream or paths you’re considering? Which scenario feels better, or more exciting? Why?

Now, what are your concerns?  Are you feeling a loss for what you may be leaving behind, if one door shuts, as you walk through another? Again a sense of loss it normal, but you’re seeking what feels better.

As you work through these questions, noticing how you’re feeling,

you’ll be guided toward what you want to expand in your experience at this particular point in time.

Indifference will be replaced with certainty and renewed vitality, as you gain greater clarity about your next steps! And so it is!

Connecting with What’s Missing!

November 9th, 2009

Dream Do Receive!

WORD COUNT: 928 Brief, Yet Transformative Words

TIME to Connect: * Less than 10 Minutes *

arrow2

* Listen to Connecting with What’s Missing *

Are your daily choices reflecting how you truly want to live your
life?
If you’re not certain, ask yourself- what’s missing in my life right now? What do I want to enjoy more and experience less?

Your answers will tell you what you truly want at a soul level. And once you’ve identified what’s missing, ask yourself – what choices will allow me to expand these missing elements in my experience?

As you evaluate your daily routines, you may find, like most people, that you’re trying to stuff your dreams into the time that’s left over at the end of the day.

And here’s the problem with that approach. We keep creating the
same stuff, because our energy flows where our attention goes. Most people rarely find the time for their heartfelt desires, if they’re in the “put it off until later” trap. Later rarely comes, if you’re focusing the best of your energy on the “have tos” and “shoulds”.

That’s why life often feels hard. We’re following self inflicted responsibilities, instead of allowing our true desires to help us find
a more rewarding way!

And it’s not surprising that we’d put play and pleasure on the back burner, because we’ve all been taught to follow that myth. Think about how the reward always came later… after your homework,
after you ate your vegetables, and all the other “no pain, no gain”
dream-busting practices that led us into over responsibility, and
burnout.

But we don’t have to do that anymore. We can allow our passions to determine how we’ll live our lives.

Time to DecideLet’s start by looking at time as a gift, rather than something that’s creating pressure or scarcity. The beauty of a limited duration is that it helps us choose what really matters. The gift of time is that it forces us to take an honest look at what we really want to experience. Without that concept, it’s too easy to jump from one idea to the next, never making a choice, or anchoring a true desire. And without a compelling dream, life feels empty. So time is actually a great friend to us.

When we commit to a goal or a dream, we give our life meaning
and purpose.
And with each liberating choice, we grow in our
understanding of who we want to be. We create who we are with
our decisions, and time helps us focus our attention on what truly
matters!

We only feel pain when we think we have to focus on everyone
and everything else first, or instead of what we truly want.

So give yourself the greatest gift you could ever imagine. Allow
yourself to be led by your dreams, instead of the “have tos’ and
shoulds”.

By focusing first on your true desire, your peace and happiness will
naturally expand, and so too does your ability to uplift and care for
those you love.

So schedule time right now, this instant, and don’t put this off for
another moment. Your personal happiness is worth a few minutes of your time and energy!

womanjournalingWhen you’re ready, take out a piece of paper or a journal. Turn off the phone and email alerts. Put on some pleasant background music, and get comfortable. Take a few deep, yet gentle cleansing breaths. Breathe in peace, knowingness and bliss. And when you’re feeling calmly focused, write down these questions.

(1) What do I feel is missing in my life right now? What do I want to enjoy more?

And what do I want to experience less?

(2) Am I willing to make different choices in order to create this
new vision of a life well lived? _____

If your answer is no, ask yourself… what am I afraid will happen if I allow myself to follow this dream?

Your answer will tell you what belief you’ll want to release in order
to grow into your soul goal. And once you know what might get in
the way, you can change that counterproductive thought into an
empowering new agreement with yourself.

(3) Now see yourself living into your true desires. What are you
doing? How do you feel? Who’s helping you? Describe your
surroundings.

Allow your imagination the freedom to help you create a thoroughly
rewarding experience. For everything begins in the imagination. As
Albert Einstein once said, your imagination is more important than
knowledge. So embrace the part of yourself that wants to play with
inspiring possibilities, and joyful outcomes! As you do, you’ll gain
greater clarity about what you truly want. And this is important,
because vague desires don’t materialize. The more you can imagine
your dreams fulfilled, the faster you’ll have them.

(4) What will I do today to allow this dream to come into fruition? This step doesn’t have to be big or complex. Yet choosing perspectives and actions that support your heartfelt desires, sends a clear message to the universe that you’re ready to be supported in this area. So write down that step, no matter how small and then take it!

Spend a few minutes every morning imagining the best outcomes in support of your goal or dream.

Affirm: I know what I want at a soul level, and declare that now for
my reality. I am now ready, willing and able to allow this into my
life, and respectfully ask the universe for support. I thankfully and
happily release this, knowing that it is now done, knowing it is
divine perfection. And so it is!

May you feel the joy and well being that are yours now!

WORD COUNT:   252 Brief, Yet Revitalizing Words

TIME to Greater Well Being: * About 1 Minute *

How are you nurturing your physical being? For the body is the sacred vessel of the soul.

And our bodies love movement, appreciation and positive attention. And just like our inner shifts, our outer shifts don’t have to feel hard.

If you’re like me, you know how easy it is get comfortable in sedentary ways. Yet as we become more present, we begin to recognize what our bodies crave.

Here are a few examples of short and easy body-nurturing practices.

Simple movement, drinking more water, eating slowly and mindfully, gentle massage, luxurious stretches, deep mild breathing, appreciation, swaying, dancing, meditation, affirmations of peace and ease, and short, periodic walks throughout the day can energize and nurture your sacred vessel. Yet none of these revitalizing choices require a large investment in time, or money.

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and tune into your body . How does your sacred vessel want to be nourished? What would feel good right now?

If you’d like to enhance your physical well being, take body nurturing mini-breaks at natural breaking points throughout your day. You can choose one of more of the examples provided, or create your own practices. The Dance of Positive Possibilities

November 3rd, 2009

dancepostivepossibilites

WORD COUNT:  271  Brief, Yet Agile Words

TIME to Move: * About 1 Minute *

We are designed to evolve. So it’s only natural that we’d be inspired toward ever-evolving goals and dreams. And that means that some of our beliefs and choices will also change as we grow spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially.

With each shift, we release the old choices that no longer serve us, in order to evolve into our newly elected way of living and being.

We only feel discomfort when we hang onto counterproductive perspectives. And they’re only counterproductive, because our preferences have changed. What once may have served us, no longer does.

When we recognize that any form of strain is just an indication that we’re hanging onto something we no longer want, our choices become obvious. By letting go of the inner struggle, we speed our progress!

Seeing the ongoing dance of shifting and releasing as a natural part of growth allows us to release the ungrounded ego’s attempt to keep us attached to confining ways.

So anytime you feel strain, ask yourself; is what I’m thinking or choosing now allowing me to be who I truly want to be? Does this thought or choice make me feel happy? If you answer no, see the choice or thought as a dance step you no longer want to take.

Then let it go, and choose another. Ask your Higher Self to help you see your experience in a different way, and you will glide forward with more ease and grace.

Maybe it would be easier to think of choosing, releasing, and allowing as the dance of positive possibilities, evolution and living life fully?

Just a little something to think about :) .

November’s Greatest Reward

November 2nd, 2009

celebratingfallsplenty

WORD COUNT:  647  Brief, Yet Pleasing Words

TIME to Resonate with Abundance: * About 7 Minutes *

Welcome to November, a month of appreciation. As we begin this month, this is a perfect time to recognize all of the abundance in your life now. As October celebrates the harvest, November supports appreciation of the relationships, beauty and joyful events that you are now living.

I love the beginning of a new month because it is a time of recognition and renewal. And November in particular, symbolizes a time of great promise. So as you’re doing your monthly review, and as you remember October’s events, rather than focusing on what you didn’t yet accomplish, focus instead on how much you’ve grown and enjoyed.

Consider too what you’ve discovered about yourself!

Because with each new discovery, you gain so much more than material trinkets. You gain the ability to understand and love yourself more fully and completely. And the more you realize your true nature, the more you are bathed in the wonder and awe of the beauty and blessedness of You.

The power of appreciation resides within the feelings we cultivate, when we are loving all that we already are, and all that we now have.

The feeling IS the treasure. And there is a point of realization, when we recognize that as much as we love playing with stuff, and as much as we appreciate the beauty of form, … the true reward is in the feeling that we get, when we allow happiness to grow, regardless of what we’ve yet achieved or received.

So by all means have fun and appreciate fully all things material and not yet manifested, for everything is spiritual. But never allow “not yet having something”,  to be an excuse for unhappiness.

And because November is a month that reminds us of appreciation in so many ways … loving family, friends, uplifting discoveries, home, nature, pets and so many other pleasures …. well, this is a perfect time to affirm that nothing is more important than you, enjoying the journey, right this moment and in every moment possible!

A powerful exercise to undertake today is to begin this month of appreciation, by making a list of all that you enjoy and appreciate in your life now. Recognize the harvest of everything you’ve already planted, and know that so much more wonder and joy is yet to come!

And as you write your list, allow yourself to feel the elevating emotions that accompany appreciation. Not only does this word symbolize thankfulness, gratitude, tribute and recognition… it also reminds us that this feeling signals growth, love, improvement and of the human spirit.

So the more we nurture appreciative thoughts, the happier, and more prosperous we naturally become, in ways that go well beyond the bottom line!

Here’s an affirmation to ponder as you water the seeds of appreciation in the week ahead. May it lift and empower you.

If you’re in a place where you can close your eyes and reflect for a few moments. Begin by turning off all distractions, and potential interruptions. And for a couple of blissful moments, bask in the feelings of appreciation.

Close your eyes, and breathe gently and deeply. Focus your attention on your breathing, feeling the peace within you growing with each breath, in… out…in…out… you are immersed in peace, tranquility and love. Feel the energy of your true nature now.

Gently affirm: I love and appreciate myself, and all of the abundance in my life now.  I know that loving others, begins with loving and cherishing myself.

I love and appreciate myself, and all of the abundance in my life  now. I know that loving others begins with loving and cherishing myself.

I love and appreciate myself, and all of the abundance in my life  now. I know that loving others begins with loving and cherishing  myself. And so it is!

May you know fully the blessings and well being that are yours now!

Reframing Scary Stories

October 30th, 2009

 reframingscarystories

WORD COUNT:  301  Brief, Yet Not-So-Frightening  Words

TIME to Safe & Less Spooky: * Less Than 2 Minutes *

We’re almost always better served by seeing our memories as stories, rather than facts.

For every memory we hold is influenced by our current perceptions. And when we layer that on top of the filters we applied five, ten, or twenty or more years ago… well, it can be really hard to separate fact from fiction. And there’s always more than one version of the same story, depending on who’s telling it.

So if a big-hairy memory surfaces, pay attention to how you feel about the story. Doing so enables you to feel, and therefore release painful emotions, rather than getting caught in what did or didn’t happen. What’s most important is acknowledging the feeling that’s attached to the story.

Then after you’ve claimed your feelings, you can decide how you want to feel about that particular topic going forward. Whether you’re working with concepts and feelings about worthiness, love, parenting, success, money, or all of the above … you get to decide what your memories will do for you!

Once you know how you want to feel about a particular topic, for example, confident, hopeful, exhilarated … you can decide how that feeling might take form in your experience. You can ask if I want to feel confident about ________, what might that look like? How would I act? What would I be doing?

And as you begin to focus on that brighter image, you’ll reframe a scary story into a very powerful tool. Because your vision morphs into happier, more empowering, ultra-fulfilling feelings!

Which gives you more clarity, wisdom and freedom than ever before! Plus, you’ve just created an improved experience in the present moment, which improves what will surface in the future. And the better you allow yourself to feel, the better the outcome will be! What a gift!
